the Abandoned Hotel story line
Christian Norton, is a world-renowned celebrity wedding planner and star of the Romantic Channel’s hit reality show “Norton Ties the Knot”. His husband, Mark Smalls, is a professional make-up artist and hair stylist. Together, they have spent the past eight years jet setting with the rich and famous around the world designing dream weddings for clients such as Fobbs 500 businessmen, celebrity entertainers, and even a royal princess or two!
After spending the past eight years attending to every whim of the most discriminating of sim brides, Christian and Mark decided it was time to live out their own happily ever after and start their family by taking their friend Aya, a private detective, up on her offer to be a surrogate for them.
After a few trips to the fertility clinic, a bunch of tests, and some appointments, Christian and Mark received the greatest news…not only was everything progressing perfectly with the pregnancy, but the ultrasound showed twins! And, to their surprise, a follow-up DNA test pointed to each of the men being a dad to one of the twins – a medical miracle!
Since what drew them together was their love and value of family, the couple decided to move to the idyllic town of Willow Creek, Christian’s hometown, to pursue their dream of raising their twins, Fiona and Isaac, in a loving environment and to open the first, of hopefully many, Christian Norton™ All-inclusive Wedding Venues.
As his angel investor pitch goes, each of the high-end wedding venues will feature a dedicated, private area to tie the knot, a 5-star restaurant, a lounge with live acts, tons of hidden locations for your special day’s photo shoot, and a relaxing spa, not to mention, the luxurious guest rooms and full-service hotel amenities the abandoned hotel was known for in its glory days. At Christian Norton™, the motto is “We do it all, so all you need to say is “I do.”
As luck had it, one night during a call home, Christian’s mother began gossiping about the abandoned hotel in Sage Estates. She said she had it on good authority that the old hotel had been officially declared abandoned and was to be condemned and torn down unless someone would pay the back taxes and make the repairs needed to save the dilapidated hotel before it is too late.
Carrying on like a school-girl, his mother began reciting the legend of the abandoned hotel (which Christian had heard at least a thousand times before…but, he humored her). In a low, soft voice she began…
The hotel was once the grand gem of Willow Creek. Sims from Windenburg to Oasis Springs flocked to the Hotel which was known as a favorite getaway of some of the most well-known sim celebrities. Today, of course, the hotel is most well-known for the disappearance of the owners’ only child, their young, beautiful daughter, Gemma. Boy, what year was that? It’s on the tip of my tongue. 1920? No, no. 1922! No. Aunt Jenny would have been four, so it had to be 1921. Yes, that’s right, she went missing in 1921. No one ever did find out what happened to sweet, precious Gemma. It was like she just vanished into thin air. Her parents, were so heart-broken that late one evening they left town…they left everything behind…they even left customers sleeping in their rooms. They just abandoned the hotel. For years, the hotel, that once held so much life within its walls, suffered from a deafening emptiness. The building sat vacant, lifeless, and lonely while the townsims hoped the owners would return. You know, time is not kind to a building without life within its walls. Over the decades the building saw some life once in a great while as its once majestic halls were marred by vandals and its penthouse suites became a favorite hangout for the local wayward whippersnappers. Now, in its current condition, it is just dangerous…and…HAUNTED!
Christian had heard this same story many, many times, but this time something moved within him. Was it because he was now a father and even just the thought of losing his precious Fiona was too much for him to bear? Or, was something more curious afoot? With the fuzzy memories of attending a party or two inside the abandoned hotel not too far from his memory, Christian found the idea of turning the old, abandoned building into his flagship hotel creeping into his every thought. The hotel started to speak to Christian. He and Mark HAD to buy the hotel and start living their dream.
The couple contacted the authorities and arranged to pay off the taxes on the old hotel. Not wanting to waste any time, they quickly submitted a construction plan for the needed renovations.
While the couple waited for the sale of the hotel to become final, they filled their time with moving their happy family into the spacious lot just across the street from the hotel in the exclusive Pendula View neighborhood. Good schools, good manners, good neighbors…it’s Pendula! This is the neighborhood that as a boy, young Christian dreamed about. His only desire was to see the inside of one of the majestic homes. He got close once. For the town’s 150th birthday, he was lucky enough to get tickets to the Homes of the Filthy Rich Tour (presented by Keeper of the Simoleans Bank). But, Christian’s little brother got sick and his mother couldn’t take him. But, now, here he was…in HIS very own Pendula View home. He thought to himself, “Life is truly a bowl of cherries with whipped cream and a cherry on top!”
Once the sale of the hotel was final, Christian hired the W2 Architectural Firm to complete the renovations. The exterior was updated by painting the brick and refacing the rest of the exterior. New energy efficient windows and doors replaced old, drafty ones. New paths and landscaping were added for curb appeal. The old fencing around the property was too much to replace (and seemed like it was in pretty good shape), so only the fence in the front entrance area was replaced. Wanting to use most of the renovation budget on high-quality furnishings, very few structural changes were made to the building – a wall here…a wall there…
As the renovation proceeded, the crew uncovered a trap door in the reception area that was covered over decades before. The basement held plenty of secrets. An old swimming grotto looked like someone had just stepped out of it and under the stairs there were several toys locked in a utility closet. They must have been locked there by Gemma’s heart-broken parents.
At first, the hotel just seemed sad, but as the work progressed it was more obvious that there was more to the heavy feeling in the building. Several reports of missing tools, cold spots, unexplained noises, and the feeling of being watched were made to Christian and Mark. Not believing in ghosts, Christian forged on with the project. However, with the hotel renovation weeks from completion, the W2 Architectural Firm pulled out for the safety and sanity of the crew.
News spread quickly in the small town and the hotel renovation was quickly in jeopardy. No firm would take on the project, let alone take a call from Christian. So, Christian and Mark decided to complete the finishing work themselves.
Neither Christian or Mark could understand the concern. They worked day and night painting, laying floors, and moving in furniture without a single incident…that is, until Mark visited the hotel one afternoon with the twins in tow. He set up the play yard in the guest room next to the room where the dads were working. After a short while, Mark heard the voice of a little girl. It couldn’t be Fiona, she only knew a few babble words. Mark checked on the children to find them just as he had left them. The couple called Aya to setup security and to do a little detective work to determine the source of the voice, but the investigation turned up nothing.
Soon, the hotel was open for business. Brides from near and far quickly reserved wedding dates stretching four years into the future…the hotel was inarguably a smashing success. In fact, it was such a success, the Romantic Channel decided to continue the TV show right from the hotel.
It was clear after the third episode, that something was not quite right in the hotel. Drapes could be seen moving, strange noises were heard, and lights could be seen turning on and off in vacant rooms. Paranormal researchers were called in to investigate the unexplained happenings. The researchers collected many pieces of evidence from the hotel, including recordings of softly spoken words, faint piano notes, and video of an orb-like object floating in the air. Christian and Mark were devastated. They were sure they would lose their investment. Once the world learned about the hauntings, no one would want to celebrate their nuptials at the hotel.
As the airing of the first episode approached, the pair tried to make plans to close the hotel as quietly as they could. They were at the hotel hosting a watch party they had planned months before when the first episode aired. As if on cue, the phone lines starting lighting up. Knowing brides would be cancelling their bookings in droves, Christian mustered up as much cheerfulness as he could and answered the phone. To his surprise, sim brides were even more interested in the haunted venue after seeing the show.
As time passed, Christian and Mark enjoyed great success and even opened several other “haunted” venues throughout the world. No matter how many venues they opened, the story of Gemma and her parents was never too far from Christian’s mind.
One day, Christian and Fiona went up to the widow’s peak to look out over Willow Creek. As they were taking in the beautiful view, a flicker of light shined in the sky. In a split second, Christian and Fiona awoke to unfamiliar surroundings. Christian quickly realized they were aboard a UFO. In one part of the room was a family – father, mother, and a young daughter – who looked like the stepped off the pages of a history book. In a flash, Christian and Fiona were back on the veranda – like nothing ever happened.
What a strange thing to happen. Maybe Christian was just losing his mind…at least that is what he thought until he found a picture of the old hotel in the back of a desk drawer. The family on the spaceship were the previous owners and their daughter Gemma – together again!
Christian wanted to go public with the information, but Mark, who finds the whole thing too hard to believe, thinks it best to keep the UFO and the truth behind the mystery a secret. I mean, can you imagine a UFO wedding venue? Really…
As they prepare for another fabulous wedding ceremony, Christian has a fleeting thought. If Gemma is with her parents on a spaceship…just WHO or WHAT is haunting the hotel?
